Zen teacher, Pat George, will lead a one day retreat of meditation and teaching. She is founder of the Philadelphia Zen Center in West Philadelphia and follows the Ordinary Mind School of Zen, established by her teacher Charlotte Joko Beck.

Time: 9AM - 4PM
Location: Plymouth Meeting Friends location

Bring a bagged lunch.

PBA will provide mats and cushions, but bring your own, if possible, in case we need extra.

It is a DANA only event, with no charged fee, but we suggest a $25 donation (dana) and accept whatever a person can give.

There is NO REGISTRATION. We will fit in whomever comes and trust that we'll have enough cushions and chairs.

From the teacher:

It is famously said in Zen that before I studied Buddhism, mountains were mountains and rivers were rivers. When I studied Buddhism, mountains were no longer mountains and rivers were no longer rivers. But now that I have attained realization, mountains are once again mountains and rivers are once again rivers.

What can this statement possibly mean for our lives? How are we to grasp it? Does the speaker make no movement in understanding, or does the last statement that mountains and rivers are once again mountains and rivers show a different appreciation than the first?

We will explore these issues and take a look at how our experience of the reality of our world affects how we live our lives, how we see ourselves and others, and how we make ethical choices.

Every Wednesday (except the fourth Wednesday of the month) at 7:30PM at our Radnor Friends location.

PBA is sponsoring an ongoing food drive for Philabundance. Wholesome, nutritious, un-opened, non-perishable food, for the hungry in our region, will be appreciated. PBA will collect food during any of the meditation sittings or any of the lectures and discussions.

Meditation classes are always held on the second Saturday of the month at our Radnor Friends location, from 11AM to 12:30PM.

PBA lectures and discussions are held on the second Sunday of each month at 7:30PM at our Plymouth Meeting Friends location.

Meditation Discussions are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM at Radnor Friends.

The Philadelphia Buddhist Association (PBA) was founded in 1986 as a place where the teachings of Buddhism can be offered by teachers from the major traditions and where students of Buddhism at all levels of experience can meet in an atmosphere of openness and commitment to practice. We maintain a space for regular group sitting meditation practice. We host retreats and workshops with teachers from all traditions throughout the year. We are always available to offer advice and information to assist people in finding a path, to enrich their current practice or to simply discover the basics of Buddhism.
